One person was stabbed to death and at least seven others injured in a stabbing spree at a shopping mall in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki Prefecture, eastern Japan, local media reported Sunday, March 23, 2008. The 24-year-old man suspected of attacking the eight people with a knife was arrested, reported the Kyodo news agency. One of the victims was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died. The suspect was wanted for the earlier slaying of a 72-year-old man, police said.

Four men were shot to death in a junk yard on March 18, 2008, at Santa Maria, near California's central coast in what police called "a case of workplace violence."
